Prof. Apurba Das is Professor in the Department of Textile and Fibre Engineering; and Institute Chair Professor. He has joined Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi in 2002 as a faculty after serving in the textile industries and in research organization for about 11 years.

He has guided many Ph.D., M. Tech., B. Tech. students and presently guiding several Ph.D., M. Tech. and B. Tech. students.

He has published many research papers in journals and conferences, authored and edited several books/monographs and written chapters in books.

He has successfully completed many research and consultancy projects from industries and government funding agencies. He has filed several patent applications. He has developed several instruments for characterization of textile materials.

His main areas of teaching and research interest are clothing comfort, sports textiles, nonwovens and technical textiles, protective textiles, filter fabrics, geotextiles, medical bandage, textile composites, and instrumentation. He is the recipient of Teaching Excellence Award.                                    

He has international research collaborations with universities from different countries like, Germany, Poland, Hungary, Slovenia, Italy, Portugal, China, South Korea, UK, Hong Kong, Croatia etc.

4. Developed New Courses:

  1. The science of Clothing Comfort (TXL750) It is an interdisciplinary course.
  1. Evaluation of Textile Materials-II (Lab) (TXP762) The course already existed, but I have developed the new course pattern with totally new experiments, keeping in mind the requirement of industries and research requirement.
  1. Mechanics of Spinning Machines (TTL321) This was an existing course, but the content of the course was totally modified. The basic theories of mechanics and correlation with spinning machines have been introduced. The students were able to correlate with basic theories and actual parameters of spinning machines.
  1. NPTEL Web Course: Textile Testing
  1. NPTEL Video Course: Science of Clothing Comfort (12 week) The course was 1st floated in July-November 2018 and received excellent response. The course has been selected by AICTE as one of few courses for teachers training.
  1. NPTEL Video Course: Evaluation of Textile Materials (12 Week)  The course was 1st floated in Jan-May 2019 and received excellent response.
