New Delhi, 23 September 2025 – The Textile & Fibre Engineering Department of the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and Garden Silk Mills Private Limited today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in research, education, and industrial innovation in the textile sector.
Under this partnership, both institutions will jointly pursue advanced R&D projects, establish pilot-scale facilities, and promote technology transfer and commercialization of innovations. Key focus areas include AI-driven yarn-quality enhancement, sustainable recycling solutions, reverse-engineering of complex fabrics, and cutting-edge fabric-processing technologies. Faculty and students of IIT Delhi will gain opportunities for internships, industrial training, and co-supervised PhD projects that address real-world challenges faced by Garden Silk in manufacturing and product development.
Professor Deepti Gupta, Head of the Department of Textile and Fibre Engineering at IIT Delhi, said, “This collaboration will allow us to translate theoretical research into practical solutions for the textile industry, particularly in areas like functional fabrics, sustainability, advanced fabric processing, and the application of artificial intelligence for precision quality control.” On behalf of Garden Silk, Mr. Amitava Banerjee, CEO, GSMPL, remarked, “We look forward to leveraging IIT Delhi’s academic expertise to drive innovation, enhance quality, and stay competitive in global textiles markets.”
By connecting academic research with industrial application, this alliance seeks to strengthen India’s position in advanced textile technologies, support the “Make in India” vision, and generate value for both academic and industrial stakeholders.
