Dr. Harun Venkatesan graduated from Institute of Textiles and Clothing at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, Hong Kong S. A. R with a PhD in Textile Technology. He had pursued his Masters in Textile Engineering at Wuhan Textile University, P. R. China and B. Tech in Textile Chemistry with university gold medal from Anna University, India. He was a Postdoctoral Researcher at the City University of Hong Kong and RTH postdoctoral fellow at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. His major research areas are the development of functional and sustainable textiles. He used “learn from the nature” strategy to develop biomimetic textile materials. Fibres with shape memory, fog harvesting, thermal and optical energy regulation properties are some of his key research outcomes. His research works were published in top peer-reviewed indexed journals like Advanced Functional Materials, Advanced Materials, Nano-micro letters etc. He had worked with leading textile industries in India and China in the areas of value-added processing and product development. In addition to academic research and industrial experience, he had also taken leadership and mentorship roles in student engagement programs designed for mental health development and out-of-class learning.
